Cocker Spaniel Information

One of the most popular breeds in the world, the Cocker Spaniel is a happy, gentle spirit with large eyes that can melt even the coldest hearts. Its beautiful, silky coat ranges from flat to wavy and comes in various colors, from white to red to black and everything in between. Regular grooming helps keep his fur in tip-top shape.

Don’t let his petite shape fool you – the Cocker Spaniel is quick with great endurance. Gentle, merry, and very smart, this breed is the ultimate family dog. He thrives when part of a loving home and does well with children and other dogs.

Cocker Spaniel Training and Temperament

The Cocker Spaniel is a very intelligent dog that learns quickly. However, they can be stubborn, so it’s important to be consistent when training. They do best with positive reinforcement and reward methods rather than harsh tactics, and they respond well to gentle discipline.

This breed is excellent with children and makes a wonderful family pet. They are very social dogs who enjoy being part of the action in the home and often get along well with other pets, as long as proper introductions have been made.

Cocker Spaniels are very affectionate dogs who love to play games, go for walks and run around off-leash in a safe area. They want to please their owners and love having a job–whether hunting or agility or just keeping your feet warm at night!

Exercise

Cocker Spaniels are very active dogs and need regular exercise in order to stay healthy. Cocker Spaniels need space to run around and get plenty of exercise. They enjoy long walks or hikes, but also do well with some generous indoor playtime every day.

Grooming

Cocker Spaniels are slightly higher-maintenance dogs. They have a medium-length fur coat that requires brushing once or twice a week to get rid of dead hair and prevent mats from forming. You will also want to give them a bath about once every month or so.

Cocker Spaniels shed their fur fairly regularly, so you should expect to find some hair in your home, but brushing will help alleviate the issue.

All dogs have their own personality and unique training, causing them to differ slightly from these breed stats. However, please let us know if we made an error in the stats, we appreciate your help!
