5 Ways to Include Your Dog in the Football Season

The football season is in full swing these days. Many Americans spend a part of their weekend (or sometimes weeknights) watching the NFL or college football on TV, or if they’re lucky, in person.

You’ve probably never thought about it before, but there are some fun ways to include your furbaby in the football action, too!

Silly? Maybe a little bit. But if you’re a hardcore football fan, it’s cool to include your pup in your favorite pastime.

  1. Get Fido a Football

Who said footballs have to stay on the field? You can get your pup their very own football toy to play with during game time.

A strong, well-made toy, like this one from Planet Dog, will last many seasons.

  2. Sport Team Spirit with a Jersey

Another way to celebrate your team spirit is with a puppy jersey supporting your favorite team!

The NFL shop has adorable options for all teams. You can either get a general jersey or a customized one with your dog’s name. How awesome is that?

  3. Make Football Dog Treats

While you’re making game-day snacks, add on one more: football-shaped dog treats!

It’s always fun to try out homemade dog treat recipes. (Here’s an easy one.) And since we’re in football season, you can give it a sporty flare with these football-shaped cookie cutters.

  4. Watch the Puppy Bowl

If you’re never watched the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet, you are missing out. Big time.

Started in 2005, the Puppy Bowl is just like the Super Bowl, but with puppies. That’s right.

It airs on Super Bowl Sunday and is pretty much the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen. Old episodes are available on Youtube and animalplanet.com.

  5. Get a Sporty Collar

Another cool way to show off your team spirit is with a collar featuring your favorite team. You can switch out your dog’s regular collar on the game day or for the duration of the season. Whatever works for you!

I might have to invest in getting my pup a Vikings jersey now that we are back in Minnesota (and out of Bronco country)! Great/fun post. Thanks for sharing 🙂
