by Jessi Larson
Time flies when you’re having fun. On your dog’s birthday, doesn’t it always seem like you’ve blinked and another year has gone by?
This year my dog Toby turns four, and I’m bound and determined to make him a dog birthday cake. I’ve been saying that forever, but this is going to be the year it happens, I swear!
To prepare, I scoured Pinterest looking for the best recipes. There are many out there, but these 10 were the best of the best.

3. Mini Berry Almond Cake

Doesn’t this cake look like something you would find in a fancy bakery? The team at Pretty Fluffy put this together for the birthday celebration of dog Coco. I’m thinking of making this for Toby, and not going to lie, I might just steal a taste.
4. Grain-Free Peanut Butter Apple Doggy Cake

This recipe does not include grain of any kind. It’s just peanut butter, baking powder, chopped apples and one egg. Those four simple ingredients create this straightforward, scrumptious cake for the special furbaby in your life.
5. Grain-Free Mini Dog Cakes

6. Coconut Honey Dog Cake
Found at Brown Eyed Baker
This dog birthday cake looks complicated, but it’s actually much easier to make than you’d think. The cake is made up of only five ingredients, and the frosting is just plain yogurt.
7. Spoiled Dog Cake Recipe
Found at Love from the Oven
How awesome is the name of this dog birthday cake? If your dog is getting a homemade birthday cake, they are most definitely spoiled. But that is what we love about being a dog parent.
8. Mini Dog Birthday Cake
Found at The Almond Eater
This dog cake includes lots of things you’d expect – peanut butter, applesauce, honey, etc. – but what we love about it is the special ingredient on top: shredded cheese. That’s right, shredded cheddar is used as a decoration on top. This is the stuff dogs dream of.
9. Homemade Doggie Cake
Found at The Cozy Cook
When I first found out the number of calories in (human) carrot cake, I was shocked. After all, weren’t carrots supposed to be healthy? They are, but all the butter and sugar negated the health benefits. Lucky for us, this dog birthday cake feature lots of the healthy orange vegetable and none of the naughty ingredients.
10. Birthday Meatloaf Cake
Found at Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart took a different approach to dog birthday cake recipes and went right for the meat and heavy vegetables. The frosting? Mashed potatoes! How brilliant is that?
